Job Description

This is a Senior level IT Project Management position. The candidate for this position will be responsible for planning and executing approved projects to implement strategic and tactical IT initiatives as well as manage projects of significant complexity and risk or manage multiple projects of moderate risk and complexity. This position is responsible for the successful transitions between project work to operational deployment, including completion of documentation, staff training and implementation of operational processes. The candidate for this position will use project management techniques as defined by our client's project methodology which follows PMI’s PMBOK and Agile/Scrum.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field and 7 years related experience, orbachelor’s degree in related field and 9 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer a minimum of 5 years related experience in IT project management. Candidates for this position must have PMP, CSM and/or SAFe certifications. Requires experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Mind Mapping tools, etc. Business Analyst skills are also required for this position.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • PMP certification and/or CSM/SAFe certifications are required. Must have excellent communication skills
     
  • Ability to plan effectively and manage multiple priorities. Requires strong written communication (technical and non- technical writing skills).
     
  • Ability to present summary and detailed data to various audiences, including executive level administration.
     
  • Ability to conceptualize needed changes and to initiate appropriate activities to move from concepts to implementation. Software development experience or IT system administration experience preferred.
     
  • Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM preferred.
     
  • Must be conversant with a variety of technologies and able to absorb innovative concepts rapidly.
     
  • Must have strong conflict negotiation, consensus building skills and provide evidentiary documentation preferred.
     
  • Must be able to manage cross-functional teams effectively and maintain a team environment of open communication, honesty, and integrity.
     
  • Demonstrate an excellent work ethic and manage stress effectively.
     
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Although this position may not have actual direct reports, the incumbent is responsible for supervising project members with respect to the completion of project tasks.

  • Job Duties  Lead, plan, and execute major IT projects or multiple moderately sized IT projects, using the client's project management methodology and the governance process defined for University Technology Services major projects. Lead the project through the initiation, planning, execution, and closing phases, with focus on communications, issues management, risk management, schedule management, and budget management.
     
  • Develop, in conjunction with the project sponsors and stakeholder, measurable objectives and business requirements. Document business requirements ensure that expectations are appropriately assessed and translated into deliverables with measurable quality. Ensure that all new technology introductions meet architectural standards, security standards, and operational standards.
     
  • Lead the transition from project closure to operational deployment and ensure that optimal processes, tools, and procedures are in place and that the operations team has “accepted” the project. Ensure that staff are trained, and all technology and processes are thoroughly documented. Ensure that support metrics are in place and can be monitored on an on- going basis.
     
  • Introduce process improvements into the project management and requirements management processes. Mentor less experienced project managers as needed. Contribute to the establishment of PM best practices by presenting at workshops, conferences, meetings, by providing course lectures, and others.
     
  • Other duties as required.
